Per Adam Caplan, today the Indianapolis Colts have signed free agent DE Dadi Nicolas. This is yet another move by Colts GM Chris Ballard to add depth and competition on defense. This has clearly been a major focus of this off-season, and even more so, the draft. In order to make room for Nicolas on the 90 man roster, the Colts waived CB Jamal Peters with an injury settlement, per @Colts on Twitter.
Nicolas, 6'3" 251 lbs, was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs 203rd overall in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech. This is yet another signing of a draft pick from Kansas City during Colts GM Chris Ballard's time there. Nicolas saw action in eleven games as a rookie in 2016, before landing on the PUP list in 2017. He was part of a trade between the Chiefs and the Cleveland Browns for TE Randall Tefler in May of 2018. The trade fell through and Nicolas was waived. Dadi spent the 2018 off-season in Seattle with the Seahawks before going to Washington where he competed for the Redskins.
The Colts add another young piece to the defense who will have to fight, most likely on special teams, for a roster spot. Even so, that small opportunity is sometimes all a player like Dadi Nicolas needs to make an impression on the Colts.
